The series presented by Ty Pennington, the star of US hit show ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’, finds regeneration projects around the UK in dire need of help. Ty’s aim is to bring residents and businesses together to create something that everyone can enjoy in years to come, all completed within the space of about a week.

In this new series, Ty is helping refurbish Portishead open air Lido pool to meet the deadline of the pool opening for the summer season on the 23rd May 2009. The pool which closed last September due to the lack of funding, sparked public outcry and the STOP campaign was subsequently launched.

Home approached various local and national companies as well as individuals to donate expertise, products and materials. Producers brought scores of experts to get the work done, as well as volunteers from the local community who worked around the clock to get the pool ready.

The open-air pool underwent a massive makeover worth £200,000 and was restored to its former glory in just seven days. The work included the installation of the solar panels, the pool repainting, the revamp of the foyer and the cafe area, and the complete re-design of the male and female changing facilities. Once-tatty changing facilities are now fully equipped with 27 new and practical steel lockers offering 101 compartments in dark and light blue colours, courtesy of Garran Lockers.
