"Thank you for all your help in accomplishing the installation of the leisure lockers throughout the new Wembley Stadium. It was very helpful to have Garran on the supply team for Multiplex because it turned out to be one package that required minimal input from us to achieve completion.

You supplied the samples and quotation in a timely and efficient manner and when it came to the installation, your team were charming, helpful and unruffled by any of the site complications, delays and logistical problems of which there were many! It was always a relief to see the men from Wales arriving as I would know that with a half hour walk through and briefing I could leave them completely alone to do their job and that the subsequent inspection would show up zero snagging.

I look forward to working with you and your team on future projects.”

Deborah Wadham, FF&E Department, Multiplex, Wembley Stadium.

Wembley Stadium Case Study

The construction of the new Wembley stadium was both controversial and fascinating. The aim of the project was to design and build a state-of-the-art national stadium, unlike any other in the world, to be the home of English football and to host large events such as Cup Finals, music events and athletics. The new stadium became an icon in the same way as the old stadium with the twin towers replaced by the arch.

The new 90,000 all-seat stadium is operated by Wembley National Stadium Ltd (WNSL) and the main contractor in charge of the overall project design and building was Multiplex UK Ltd.

Business Challenge

Storage areas including lockers were required for all the Wembley Stadium staff including security, general staff, grounds men, catering etc. The requirement was to provide easy to access and robust leisure lockers facilities that comply with the stringent health and safety standards and are compatible with the new stadium design, which was both functional and architecturally significant.

Solution Deployed

After a detailed and thorough consultation process, Garran Lockers were selected to design and install 900 different leisure locker compartments and cloakroom accessories, some standard and some specifically designed and built to meet the stadium storage needs.

Lockers and benches were supplied for staff changing areas, in various configurations, to suit different requirements. Perforated lockers were required to make use of heating pipes in some of the areas. Leisure lockers had perforated bases and doors and were positioned on stand seats which enabled installers to place the lockers over the pipes thereby allowing damp clothing to be stored and dried prior to reuse.

Most of the locker rooms also needed either integral stand seating or free standing bench seats which were manufactured to suit the agreed layout.

Delivery and installation at pre arranged restrictive times to a very busy building site proved challenging to all parties involved. It needed a responsible cooperative attitude by all to ensure a positive outcome. The delivery and installation of 900 locker compartments and seating benches took place during August and September 2006, while snagging was completed in June 2007. Garran Lockers was commended by the Multipex project team for being very flexible, professional and being able to accomplish the project on time and within budget.
